Angelo Gordon & Co. has added seven more people to its direct lending group, now called Twin Brook Capital Partners, in Chicago.
Several of the new staffers come from Madison Capital Funding, the lending business of New York Life Investment Management, which Trevor Clark and Chris Williams co-founded in 2001. Angelo Gordon established the direct lending business in September by hiring Clark and Williams to lead it.
Joining them this month are Richard Christensen, David Gibson, and Grant Haggard as senior loan originators; Drew Guyette and Jessica Nels join as principals focused on underwriting; Evan Larsen as an associate and Karen Saunoris as director of operations, an Angelo Gordon spokesman confirmed.
Christensen was previously a managing director at Madison Capital for 14 years, while Haggard worked there also as a managing director since 2008 before joining Ares Management in the direct lending group last April. Guyette and Saunoris also hail from Madison Capital, where Guyette worked as a director for seven years and Saunoris was an operations manager since 2002, according to their LinkedIn profiles.
David Gibson, meanwhile, comes on board from Goldman Sachs, where he has worked as a director in the Specialty Lending Group since 2004. Nels was previously a vice president in the healthcare sponsor finance department at BMO Harris Bank. Larsen was an associate at US Bank, which he joined in July 2012. The firm is close to hiring one other person, whose name couldn’t yet be disclosed.
The group is in the process of raising $500 million for its first direct lending fund, as PDI previously reported. The AG Direct Lending Fund has so far collected $200 million in equity for a first close. Angelo Gordon, which is headquartered in New York, has $27 billion in assets under management across multi-strategy hedge funds, private equity funds, distressed credit and real estate debt and equity.
