Former Morgan Stanley CEO joins Star Mountain

John Mack, former chairman and chief executive of investment bank Morgan Stanley will both advise and invest in the lower mid-market credit provider

Star Mountain Capital, the New York-based lower mid-market lender and LP investor, has hired former Morgan Stanley chair and chief executive officer (CEO), John Mack, as a senior advisor. Mack is also a strategic investor in the firm.

“Star Mountain's specialized platform allows investors to efficiently access the attractive returns found in the less competitive private small / medium-sized business marketplace. It's a great example of the potential to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns for investors while also generating positive social impact through substantial small business job creation in the United States,” said Mack.

He remains a strategic advisor to Morgan Stanley where he was chief executive from 2005 to 2010 and chairman until 2011. Mack was also an early investor in online lending platform, Lending Club.

“John's insight, expertise and relationships from managing some of the leading global financial institutions and from being an early partner with Lending Club, will be a great addition to Star Mountain's unique approach to investing in the small / medium-sized business marketplace,” said Star Mountain founder and CEO Brett Hickey.

Star Mountain Capital is a specialized alternative asset manager focused exclusively on financing US small to medium-sized businesses. The firm acts as a strategic partner for small business investment companies and other lower mid-market funds to boost portfolio value through deal flow, underwriting expertise and relationships.
