North Asian LPs are looking more closely at GP capabilities and investment discipline as concerns mount over a potential recession, a conference has heard.

Speaking via a translator at Private Debt Investor’s Tokyo Forum last week, Junichi Yonezawa, head of alternative investments at LP gatekeeper Norinchukin Zenkyoren Asset Management, said it was “important to deal” with managers equipped for workout situations due to the risk of defaults among 2020 and 2021-vintage deals.
