Pemberton, the pan-European asset manager backed by insurer Legal & General, has expanded its London-based team with the hiring of Bethany Walker as head counsel – execution.
Walker has worked in banking and capital markets for a decade, and has for the past four years been legal counsel for execution and workouts at fellow London-based fund manager Hayfin Capital Management. Prior to that she was a solicitor in the finance teams at Macfarlanes and DLA Piper UK.
In her new role, Walker will provide transaction execution and legal support to Pemberton’s origination teams throughout Europe.
“As we continue to expand our platform and originate more transactions right across Europe, Bethany’s support will be invaluable,” said Symon Drake-Brockman, managing partner at Pemberton.
In July, Pemberton launched a credit opportunities strategy to invest up and down the capital structure, providing senior and unitranche debt for struggling companies and junior portions for strong performing companies where a bank takes the senior role.
The firm manages a mid-market European debt fund, which closed on €1.2 billion last year, and is in the market with a sterling-focused fund targeting £500 million in commitments.
It has been steadily building its team, including with the hire in May of Eric Capp. Capp joined from Royal Bank of Scotland, where he headed up the bank’s debt syndicate, leveraged finance and high yield team.
