PennPSERS hires debt portfolio manager

The newly created position has been filled by an ex-NYC Comptroller’s Office employee.

Pennsylvania Public Schools Employees’ Retirement System (PennPSERS) has appointed James Del Gaudio as private debt portfolio manager, a spokesperson for the pension fund told PDI

The role is newly created and Del Gaudio will be the primary overseer of the pension’s private debt investments working alongside five other staff members responsible for debt including the chief investment officer, James Grossman, the spokesperson added. 

Del Gaudio will report directly to Charles Spiller, managing director of private markets and real estate for the fund. He joined from the New York City Comptroller’s Office, the investment advisor for the city’s five public pension funds.

PennPSERS had over $53 billion in assets as of 30 June 2014. It has invested in private debt with a large number of managers including Apollo Global Management, Arrowhead Mezzanine, Avenue Capital Group, Black Diamond, Cerberus Institutional Partners, Gold Hill Venture Lending 03, GoldPoint Partners, Oaktree Capital Management, Versa Capital Management and Windjammer Capital Investors, according to PDI Research & Analytics.
