Guess who’s back?

As investor appetite for securitisation grows, commercial real estate CLOs – rarely seen since the Crisis – are back in fashion. Irwin Speizer explores the implications

As securitisation of private debt through Collateralised Loan Obligations (CLOs) continues to grow, it is also expanding into new areas. One of the latest advances is into commercial real estate (CRE), with new CLO issues coming to market at a rapid pace.

On December 21, Blackstone Mortgage Trust closed a $1 billion CRE CLO, the largest issue of its type since the financial crisis.
