GSO hires distressed expert

Ex- Anchorage Capital leveraged finance specialist joins Blackstone-backed effort in New York.  

GSO Capital Partners announced today (18 April) that it has appointed David Flannery to  senior managing director with a focus on distressed strategies in both private and public markets.

“As we continue to see expanding opportunities in the distressed arena, David's deep industry knowledge and proven leadership in leveraged finance will be a meaningful addition to the team,” said Bennett Goodman, senior managing director and co-founder of GSO.

Flannery, who will be based in New York and reporting directly to GSO co-founders Bennett Goodman and Tripp Smith, brings nearly 25 years of leveraged finance experience to his new role. He comes to GSO from Anchorage Capital Group, where he focused on CLOs and illiquid credit opportunities.The company will not be replacing him and his duties will be assumed by other members of his team.

Previously, Flannery spent five years with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was global head of leveraged finance, among other titles. Flannery began his career at investment banking firm Bankers Trust Company and was later global head of leveraged finance at Deutsche Bank.

US-based GSO is an alternative asset manager with approximately $79 billion of assets under management. The company serves as the credit investment platform of Blackstone and invests in mezzanine debt, distressed investing and leveraged loans.
