M&G hires head of asset-based lending

A newly created role will help the firm explore opportunities in asset-backed lending.

M&G Investments has appointed Oliver Wilson as head of asset-based lending to join its Direct Lending team in London.

Wilson joins M&G from Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), where he was head of the London and South region for its asset-based lending division since May 2015. He joined RBS in 2011 as a business development manager responsible for origination and structuring of asset-based lending debt packages.

M&G said the appointment reflected the flexible approach of its funds to lending and a desire to do more in the asset-based lending space.

James Pearce, head of direct lending at M&G Investments, said: “Asset-based lending is an interesting area that is part of our long-term approach to this asset class and we wanted to bring in someone who has experience in the asset based approach.”

“Oliver’s experience in asset based lending will enable us to provide more holistic financing solutions in order to meet the needs of mid-market businesses. His expertise in origination will bolster our team’s ability to find cash-flow generating assets that in turn provide attractive returns for our pension fund and insurance investors.”

M&G said it will look at the full range of asset-based loans including those secured against receivables, inventory and plant machinery.
