New York-based lender Star Mountain Capital has added Jack Finlayson as a strategic investor and senior advisor to the firm, according to a statement. Finlayson has more than 30 years of experience as a telecom industry executive leading companies through IPOs, acquisitions and turnarounds.
Finlayson has previously served as chairman and chief executive of web hosting and cloud computing company Layered Technologies. He is also the former president and chief executive of SAVVIS Inc., which he helped develop from a $180 million network company to a $700 million player in the global network and hosting space, including the company’s IPO in 2000.
He has also served as senior vice president and president-international at Bermuda-headquartered telecom company Global Crossing, where he helped take the company public as well. Before that, he was a corporate vice president and general manager at Motorola, where he helped turn the failing wireless business around and triple revenue in four years.
“Jack's insight, expertise and relationships in the technology and telecommunications space will be a great addition to Star Mountain's unique approach to investing as a value-added partner in both funds and directly into companies, in all cases focused exclusively on the private small and medium-sized business marketplace,” Rob Golding, Star Mountain managing director and investment committee member, said in a statement.
“I believe Star Mountain has a unique team, platform and approach to this fragmented lower end of the market where I believe attractive risk-adjusted returns are available. I look forward to helping the firm continue to bring differentiated value and expertise to the marketplace as an aligned investor and advisor,” Finlayson commented.
Star Mountain is an alternative asset manager focused exclusively on North America’s private small and mid-size businesses as both a fund manager and direct investor. The firm also added former Morgan Stanley chief executive John Mack as a senior advisor earlier this year.
