Apollo’s Martini heads to Owl Rock – exclusive

Arthur Martini (pictured), formerly the head of financial sponsors at Apollo’s BDC, is set to join Owl Rock Capital Partners toward the end of September.

Owl Rock Capital Partners has hired Arthur Martini as a senior member of its sponsor coverage team, PDI has learned.

Martini was formerly the US head of financial sponsors at Apollo Capital Management, which oversees investments for the Apollo Investment Corporation BDC. He left Apollo in early July, according to S&P LCD. He is currently on garden leave with Apollo and is set to join Owl Rock around late September, PDI understands.

Owl Rock declined to comment and a spokesman for Apollo couldn’t immediately provide comment regarding a replacement for Martini.

According to Martini’s LinkedIn profile, he spent the past three years at Apollo overseeing US financial sponsors for mid-market loans in the BDC, which has about $2.8 billion in assets. Before joining Apollo in August 2013, he was a director at Barclays Private Credit Partners for more than six years. Before Barclays, he worked as a vice president at Cerberus Capital Management and as an associate at JPMorgan Chase.

Owl Rock is the new private credit firm started by GSO’s Doug Ostrover and KKR’s Marc Lipschultz earlier this year. The firm has been hiring many senior people from the ranks of Goldman Sachs, TPG, CPPIB and other prominent GPs and LPs. According to an August regulatory filing, the firm has so far raised $1.7 billion for its Owl Rock Capital Corporation non-traded BDC.
