Charts of the year: the investor's Perspective on 2016

In the final look at key charts of 2015, leaders in the private debt market share their strategies for the year ahead.

PDI’s first Perspectives survey this year revealed how investors were flooding into the private debt market despite high levels of competition in the asset class.

The survey found 75 percent of respondents intend to allocate at least $50 million to private credit in the 12 months to September 2016, but investors were not completely sold on niche managers.

Many said that while niche strategies can offer good opportunities for investment, they tended to shy away from smaller managers in favour of more general players who can deploy capital at a faster rate.

European corporate debt, and direct-lending strategies in particular, remained highly popular, among those questioned, with North American investors actively seeking out distressed managers ahead of an anticipated downturn.
