CIFC has hired Peter McLaughlin as a managing director to build out its direct lending business, the firm’s head of capital markets Oliver Wriedt told Private Debt Investor on Friday.
“We continue to build to build out our platform,” he said, adding that in addition to the firm’s liquid credit and CLO strategies, “The third leg to the stool is to build out the private debt capability … which we’re now ramping up.”
McLaughlin and Wriedt worked together at GoldenTree, where Wriedt said McLaughlin’s talents as an originator were well regarded. McLaughlin joins CIFC from Longroad Asset Management, where he led that firm’s origination effort.
“I knew him to be a very talented originator,” Wriedt said. “I knew his ability to identify and process deals going back close to 10 years.”
CIFC is an alternative credit manager with approximately $12.3 billion under management. The firm was founded in 2005.
