CIFC hires head of research to lead US credit platform

The firm says the hire will enable it to strengthen its US credit research platform at a time of unprecedented volatility.

CIFC has hired David Walker as head of research in the firm’s New York office to help drive the growth of its alternative credit business.

Walker has over 30 years of experience in debt and equity research across North America and Europe. He previously served as director of corporate credit research at Genworth Financial. Before that, he worked at credit-oriented hedge fund Tricadia Capital Management for seven years as a portfolio manager and senior analyst.

Walker has also held roles at UBS and JP Morgan Securities in credit research.

At CIFC he will lead the firm’s US credit research platform and oversee its team of 20 research analysts. He will report directly to CIFC CEO and chief investment officer Steve Vaccaro.

Commenting on the hire, Vaccaro said: “During this unprecedented time of market volatility, David’s appointment underscores our unwavering commitment to the long-term growth and success of our alternative credit platform.”

CIFC added that much of its $26 billion of assets under management is locked up in long-term vehicles giving the firm stability and flexibility to make strategic decisions.
