Deutsche Bank vet joins Star Mountain

Stephen Fromm will join the ranks of strategic investors and senior advisors to the lower mid-market firm.  

Star Mountain Capital has added Stephen Fromm as a senior advisor and strategic investor. Fromm is the former vice chairman of financial institutions group at Deutsche Bank and will focus on underwriting and portfolio management for Star Mountain, according to a statement shared with PDI .

“Star Mountain will benefit from Steve's decades of strategic and analytical experience across all portfolio investment companies, particularly with financial service businesses,” said Star Mountain founder and chief executive officer Brett Hickey in the statement.

Prior to joining the financial institutions group, Fromm was head of Americas insurance at Deutsche Bank. Before joining the German bank in 2009, Fromm served as head of North American insurance at Citibank and head of insurance M&A in the Financial Institutions Group of Morgan Stanley. Earlier in his career, he also held positions at First Boston and Wasserstein & Perella.

Fromm joins a number of other prominent senior advisors to Star Mountain. Leo Helmers , founder of the Carlyle Group mezzanine lending unit, and former Morgan Stanley chief executive officer John Mack are also strategic investors and senior advisors to the New York-based firm. In April, Star Mountain announced that it had added Anne Yang , founder of Star Mountain Advisors and formerly of Goldman Sachs, as a senior advisor and strategic investor.

Star Mountain is an alternative asset management firm focused on the US lower mid-market. It maintains offices in New York, New Jersey and Atlanta and has local partners in ten offices spread throughout the United States.
