Exclusive: Babson hires VPC lending principal

Tom Affolter will join the Chicago office of Babson Capital in two weeks following his departure from Victory Park Capital.

Former principal at Victory Park Capital (VPC), Tom Affolter, has been recruited as a managing director by Babson Capital, PDI can reveal. He takes up his new role in two weeks.

At Babson, as at VPC, Affolter will focus on mid-market lending. 

Babson Capital and Victory Park Capital did not respond to a request for comment. 

Affolter has worked at VPC since 2009. Prior to that, he was a director at CapitalSource for three years which he joined from GE Antares Capital where he was a senior vice president for two years. He held the same role at the broader GE Capital between 2001 and 2004, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was at Heller Financial between 1996 and 2001.

Babson's private credit platform has about $29 billion in assets under management across US, European and Asia Pacific strategies. The firm’s US lending offices are located in its Charlotte, North Carolina headquarters, Chicago and Springfield, Massachusetts. 

As a whole, Babson Capital Management has $217 billion in assets across a variety of traditional and alternative investment strategies. The firm is owned by US insurer MassMutual Financial Group.
