Marlborough expands into Germany with senior hire

The debt advisory firm has opened its first office outside the UK and has appointed the former director of 3i’s banking team to lead it.

Marlborough Partners, the UK-based debt advisory boutique founded by William Allen, Jonathan Guise, David Parker and Romain Cattet, has added a fifth partner – Markus Ehrler – to lead the firm’s push into Germany.

He will be based at the firm’s first office outside the UK, which will open in Frankfurt later this month.

William Allen, managing partner of Marlborough, said the firm would look to expand its European footprint further over the next few years.

The Frankfurt office is being set up to provide further support to existing and potential customers in the German-speaking market.

Ehrler was formerly a director in 3i Group’s banking team, with responsibility for sourcing leverage and advising on capital structures for new deals, refinancings, restructurings and exit financings in Europe, with a particular focus on Germany and France. He raised more than €2.7 billion of debt financing whilst at 3i. Prior to that, he worked in leveraged finance at UBS, and has held director-level positions at Court Square Capital and SBC Warburg.
