New York State Common approves $400m commitment

The US public pension has backed an Asia Pacific-focused private debt fund.

New York State Common Retirement Fund has committed $400 million to SSG Capital Partners V, according to the pension’s November monthly report. The Fund will prioritise in special situations and distressed debt investments in the Asia-Pacific region with a particular focus on China, India Southeast Asia.

The $215.54 billion US public pension has a 2.30 percent allocation to private debt.

As illustrated below, New York State Common Retirement Fund has made six commitments to private debt funds with a 2018 or 2019 vintage, which combined constitute $1.06 billion.
