Singapore’s largest sovereign fund has increased its investments in private equity and real estate in recent years – a trend likely to continue owing to the turmoil in the financial markets. The change was revealed as part of its first performance report, which also shed rare light into the GIC’s structure.

The publicly listed fund of funds is now trading at almost a 50 percent discount to NAV. In a statement, the fund says it is “hopeful” that a deal for Lehman’s asset management and alternatives units “will be made within a very short period of time”.
The private equity real estate fund managed by M3 Capital Partners will focus on development projects in the US state’s residential and commercial sectors.
