Owl Rock adds IR duo from CION – exclusive

The new private debt manager has hired Derek O’Leary as head of investor relations and business development and Sean Connor as a principal and member of that team.

Owl Rock Capital Partners (Owl Rock) has hired Derek O’Leary and Sean Connor from CION Investment Corporation for its business development and investor relations team.

O’Leary, who joins as a managing director and head of the group, was previously president of CION Securities, the dealer manager for the CION Investment Corporation.

Connor, who started as a principal and member of the IR team, was a managing director for CION Investment Management, the investment advisor to the CION Investment Corporation.

They both left CION at the end of last year.

New York-based CION Investment Corporation is a non-traded BDC that had $1.34 billion in investments across 143 portfolio companies as of the first quarter. The BDC is sub-advised by Apollo Global Management.

Owl Rock, also based in New York, was started earlier this year by Doug Ostrover and Marc Lipschultz.

Ostrover was one of the three founders of Blackstone-owned GSO Capital Partners, while Lipschultz ran the energy and infrastructure investment areas at KKR.

The firm has since been building out its staff with senior hires from other alternative investment firms. The group is also managing a non-traded BDC and raising a private closed-end fund.
