Pemberton hires ex-RBS exec to lead Spanish investments

The lender expects to increase its direct lending activity in Spain after making four investments last year.

Pemberton has hired Leticia Ruenes to lead its investment activity in Spain, saying the country has growing investment opportunities.

Ruenes joins as a managing director and head of Spain for Pemberton. She most recently worked for Royal Bank of Scotland as head of its European structured finance portfolio where she oversaw leveraged buyouts, infrastructure and project finance investments.

She has held several other positions at RBS since joining in 2003, including head of project finance portfolio and director of the leveraged finance origination team in Spain. Before joining RBS, Ruenes was part of the mergers and acquisitions team at ING.

Commenting on the hire, Symon Drake-Brockman, managing partner at Pemberton, said: “[Ruenes] is the perfect candidate to help build on our momentum and drive the Spanish business forward. The appointment marks an important step in the development of our origination strategy across Europe, where we now have active presence in eight locations.”

Pemberton said the Spanish credit market offers growing opportunities for direct lending with the firm having completed four deals in Spain during 2019, totalling more than €600 million.
