Strategic Value Partners has raised $5 billion for Strategic Value Special Situations Fund V, exceeding its target size of $4 billion, according to a recent press release by the firm. The firm completed the fundraising process, reaching the fund’s hard-cap only three months after holding a first close.

The oversubscribed fund will continue to follow its predecessor’s strategy, investing in distressed debt companies in North America and Europe. Strategic Value Special Situations Fund IV, the fund’s predecessor, closed in April 2018 at its $2.85 billion hard-cap. Global law firm Ropes & Gray acted as a legal counsel.
