Twin Brook Capital Partners, the Chicago-based direct lending arm of Angelo, Gordon & Co, has hired Mike LaBelle as a vice president in underwriting. LaBelle previously worked with Trevor Clark and Christopher Williams, who head up Twin Brook Capital, at Madison Capital Funding.
Clark and Williams, who were chief executive and president at Madison Capital, respectively, left the firm in 2013 and LaBelle left around the same time. He was an assistant vice president in underwriting at Madison.
Between leaving Madison and joining Twin Brook, LaBelle worked as a director at National Express, a provider of student transportation and North American subsidiary of National Express Group. While there, LaBelle worked directly with top management to evaluate, structure and underwrite acquisition opportunities for the company's growth strategy.
At Madison Capital, LaBelle specialized in structuring, underwriting and negotiating transactions across a range of industries with mid-market private equity sponsors. Prior to Madison, he worked at William Blair & Company, a Chicago-based investment bank, where he focused on debt advisory, mergers and acquisitions and restructuring engagements.
LaBelle is Twin Brook’s eighth staffer who comes from Madison Capital. The firm had filled out its coffers with seven underwriting and operations employees by April, four of whom used to work at Madison Capital. In addition to these people and Clark and Williams, earlier this month the firm also hired Betsy Booth, a former underwriter at Madison Capital, who worked at Ares most recently.
