The law firm has added to its European finance platform with Michael Steele joining as a partner.

Michael Steele has joined the London office of Kirkland & Ellis International as partner in the finance practice group, the law firm said.

Steele advises credit funds, private equity sponsors and financial institutions across a broad range of financing transactions including leveraged and real estate finance, special situation investments, loan portfolio acquisitions and restructurings.

“Michael is recognised as one of the top finance lawyers in the market and has developed a strong reputation for handling complex transactions, particularly on the sponsor side,” Jeffrey C Hammes, chairman of Kirkland’s global management executive committee, said.

“His joining the firm reflects our continued commitment to building our leading European finance platform.”

Steele joins Kirkland from the London office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He holds commerce and law degrees from Bond University, in Queensland, Australia, and spent 12 months on the leveraged finance team at Goldman Sachs in 2010.
